The Congress on Thursday alleged that the government had deliberately ignored Bastar and Sarguja regions while announcing nine new districts in the state. The PCC president Nandkumar Patel charged that by keeping Bastar and Sarguja at bay, the government apparently indicated that it was not interested in development of the two tribal-populated regions.
“Chief Minister Raman Singh has failed to keep his promise to the people of Bastar and Sarguja in spite of getting large number of votes from both the regions in the past two Assembly elections,” said Patel.
“It is surprising that the government has completely kept its eyes closed towards the requisites of the people in Bastar and Sarguja. Both the regions lack basic infrastructure like education, health, etc, especially in far-fetched areas. The government has failed to reach to the people and consequently there is no development in both the forest-rich regions in spite of heavy expenditure in the past couple of years,” said Patel.
He said the radius of any district headquarters should not be more than 40-45 kilometers and suggested that considering vast geographical areas of Bastar and Sarguja the government should announce more new districts in the two belts before January 1, 2012.
He proposed 11 new districts besides the nine announced by government. From north Chhattisgarh, Patel said, the government should form six more districts besides the newly announced ones Surajpur and Balrampur. The six districts he proposed are – Samri, Pratappur, Manendragarh, Sitapur, Pathhalgaon, Pendra and Gaurela.
From southern Chhattisgarh, he said, the government must form two more districts besides the newly announced districts Sukma, Kondagaon and Gariyaband. The two proposed districts are - Sihava-Nagri and Daundi Lohara-Bhanupratappur. Similarly in central region of the state, he said, Sarangarh, Bhatapara and Naya Raipur should be announced as new districts. The government has announced Bemetara, Balod, Mungeli and Baloda Bazar.
