Congress dharna against govt on 24th

Raipur, September 21, 2011

The Congress will stage day-long dharna against the government for not reducing Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol on September 24. “Instead of criticising the Centre for recent hike in petrol prices, the state government can reduce VAT on this item from 25% to 4% to give relief of Rs ten per litre to the people. We had urged the government to reduce VAT but it did not respond. Now, to mount pressure on it, we will stage dharna on September 24,” said DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal on Wednesday. Pointing out that the government had reduced VAT on petrol used in airplanes earlier, Dhariwal asked, “When Chief Minister Raman Singh has shown generosity to the air passengers then why cannot he do the same for common people who have given him votes.”
