Govt to distribute State Literacy Award

For the first time, to promote its literacy campaign the state government will distribute State Literacy Award (SLA) this year. The award will be conferred for achieving highest literacy rate. The award will be in three different categories – district, development block and gram panchayat.
The officials of School Education Department informed that the year 2011 SLA will be given to Koria (district), Surajpur (development block) and Nayapara Kala (gram panchayat). The awards will be distributed on September 19 in the capital city.
Last year during the prize distribution and conclusion ceremony of adult learners’ week in September 14, 2010, the School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal had announced that the SLA would be distributed from 2011. Thereafter, the State Literacy Mission Authority (SLMA) was assigned the task to give practical shape to the concept.
Notably Surajpur development block recently received prestigious Satyen Maitra award 2011 from National Literacy Mission Authority (NLMA). The officials informed that the SLMA had also sent the names of Koria district and gram panchayat Nayapara Kala along with Surajpur to the NLMA for Satyen Maitra award.
During SLA award distribution programme, the government will also give awards to the best motivators and directors (two males and two females for each category) each from the eight districts selected for the first phase under Sakshar Bharat Karyakram.
The government will also felicitate all the districts, development blocks and gram panchayats which have received Satyen Maitra award in the past.
