The BPL cardholders of Mahasamund district would receive arva brand rice from this year end. The announcement was done by the Food Minister Punnulal Mohle during the ongoing monsoon session of state Assembly on Wednesday. He said the current stock of usna brand rice was likely to be exhausted by the fag end of 2011 after which the distribution of arva rice would begin.
The information regarding supply of arva rice for BPL cardholders in Mahasamund was sought by Congress legislator Paresh Bagbahra during the Question Hour. Bagbahra said the minister’s information about arva supply during Zero Hour of the Budget session in February-March 2011 and his reply on the same subject on Thursday were contradictory. He said the minister should clear the confusion by informing the exact time period of commencement of arva supply.
In his answer, Mohle said arva supply in Mahasamund district was being done on the basis of the availability of the particular brand and not on the basis of its demand.
Answering to another question asked by Congress MLA Haridas Bhardwaj, Mohle assured that the new ration cards to the eligible families Saraipali development block (Mahasamund district) under Antyodaya, Annapurna and Mukhya Mantri Khadyann Yojana would soon be made on the basis of the application and eligibility.
When Bhardwaj objected that the Food department revoked large number of ration cards in Mahasamund district, the minister said the cards of only ineligible candidates were cancelled. He informed that vehicle owner, income tax payee and owner of more than five acres of lands are termed as ineligible for ration cards meant for poor.
