Caustically reacting over BJP’s defensive remarks in favour of its national president Nitin Gadkari, Congress on Friday clarified that principal opposition of the state had actually decided to boycott tainted chief of the saffron party, not Rajyotsav 2012.
“It is the BJP which is politicising Rajyotsav by inviting Gadkari, not Congress. We certainly do not look the state establishment day with political specs,” said PCC spokesperson Mahendra Chhabda.
“We maintain our charges against Gadkari. There are corruption charges against him. Still, the state government has invited him to inaugurate Rajyotsav 2012. Neither the Congress, nor the people of Chhattisgarh approve the government’s decision. The ruling party is staking its reputation over the lost man,” he added.
Notably the BJP, on October 25, had termed the Congress decision of boycotting Rajyotsav as ridiculous. The BJP’s state general secretaries Shivratan Sharma and Bhupendra Savanni had jointly said that Gadkari could not be compared with corrupt leaders of Congress.
