Medicines not purchased despite fund approved

Raipur, October 19, 2012

The Congress has alleged that despite approval of Rs 12 crore by the government in March 2012 to purchase medicines for government hospitals, the fund could not be spent for said purpose even in seven months.

In this connection, the Congress workers led by former president of party’s Jhuggi Jhopdi cell Sheikh Shakeel submitted memorandums to Raipur Collector Siddharth Komal Pardesi, Health commissioner Pratap Singh and Health director Dr Kamalpreet Singh on Friday.

Shakeel said the relevant authorities should have used the fund timely considering scarcity of medicines in Ambedkar and other government hospitals.
“With no medicines available in government hospitals, the low income patients are forced to buy the prescribed expensive drugs from elsewhere,” he added.

Further indicating that the X-ray machine in Ambedkar hospital had stopped functioning for the past several days, the Congmen demanded to repair it quickly.
“If medicines will not be purchased from the approved fund in next coming days then we will submit memorandum to Health minister,” they said.

On the occasion, Shakeel was accompanied by Suresh Chandra Dave, Prakash Ramteke, Jagram Mahanand, Sewak Mahanand, Mumtaz Hussein, Sadik Khan, Santosh Kumar, etc.
