Students’ union polls: NSUI gheraoes RSU

Raipur, October 12, 2012

The NSUI members on Friday gheraoed administrative block of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) demanding quick conduction of students’ union elections.

The NSUI’s state vice president Subodh Haritwal held the government responsible for no students’ union polls in last eight years. “The government takes decision not to conduct polls under a strategy every year. The vice chancellors of all the universities and responsible office-bearers too support the government in its anti-student decision,” he added pointing that the ruling party had not right to snatch basic rights of the students.

“The government is scared of NSUI’s popularity hence it is not allowing students to choose their president through democratic method. Eight years back, the NSUI had won polls in every college. The BJP government fears that the NSUI will win again if elections would be conducted,” he said.

During gherao programme, Haritwal was accompanied by Pradeep Sahu, Vidhi Namdev, Asmita Chelak, Abhinav Ravte, Raja Farishta, Mohit Shrivastava, Tarun Soni, Rajesh Nishad, Taru Mishra, Ashish Ghosh, Mahesh Yadav, Sagar Mudliyar, etc.
