Hussein case: Cong demands action against guilty cops

Raipur, October 13, 2012

Alleging that the police thrashed YC Lok Sabha general secretary Anwar Hussein ruthlessly in custody, PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey on Saturday demanded stern action against guilty cops. “This incident exposes BJP government’s undemocratic face. The government has become impatient and insensitive,” the duo said.

The police arrested Hussein when he suddenly disrupted Chief Minister Raman Singh’s speech during inaugural session of National Agriculture Science Fair at Indira Gandhi Agriculture University on October 7, 2012.
“Hussein simply asked about irregularities in paddy procurement but the CM lost his mental balance and called the former drunk, certainly a baseless and objectionable remark,” they said.

“When Hussein was taken to jail, he complained of back pain and vertigo. The officials refused to put him in jail before his medical checkup. He was first taken to district hospital and then Ambedkar hospital. Eventually, he spent one night in jail hospital without treatment. He was released on October 9. However, when he felt acute pain in ears, he went to Ambedkar hospital where he was told about injury in his eardrums. This happened due to barbaric action of the police,” they said.

“The government must conduct Hussein’s complete medical checkup and incur his treatment cost,” they demanded.

“Just recently, the police had barbarically lathicharged on Congress members at Sitapur. Now, it was Hussein. The Raman Singh government is persistently taking repressive action against us but we will not tolerate this and protest,” they said.
