Jogi asks CM, other ministers to disclose tour outlays

Raipur, October 06, 2012

In the backdrop of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s allegations that Centre had spent Rs 1880 crore in foreign trips of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi in past three years, the senior Congress legislator Ajit Jogi in Chhattisgarh has trained his guns towards CM Raman Singh and his Cabinet ministers and has demanded disclosure of their foreign and domestic travel expenditures in last nine years.

“The state’s economic condition has weakened due to corruption, fund wastage and budget lapses during the BJP’s nine year regime. During this period, the CM and other ministers toured different states and foreign countries frequently, however neither they disclosed the outlays nor the benefits of their trips. They were expected to do so in state assembly or at least before the people of Chhattisgarh whose hard-earned money they have misused,” said Jogi.

He said the government is answerable to each of its spending. “Huge fund has been spent in the CM’s recent road show at New Delhi aimed to invite global investors in Chhattisgarh. Similarly, the public exchequer is deeply dented during gram and nagar swaraj campaigns every year. The government is also wasting fat sum on the name of state establishment day,” he indicated.

“Ironically, the government shows losses in power companies and fails to make optimum use of Central funds which eventually lapse,” he said.

Besides the CM and ministers, he said, the travel expenditures of government officials should also be disclosed. In addition, he demanded the CM, Cabinet ministers, heads of boards/corporations and government officials should also disclose their assets.
