HM’s son working as agent for Videocon: Cong

Says several hectares of land have been forcibly purchased from farmers in Janjgir-Champa

Raipur, June 24, 2011

The Congress has alleged that Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar’s son Sandeep was working as agent for Videocon Industries Limited Mumbai and forcibly purchasing lands from poor farmers of Janjgir-Champa district for the company. “Sandeep is a PRO in Videocon and is misusing his father’s post to acquire lands,” charged the PCC’s secretary incharge V Hanumantha Rao while he was interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on Friday. He said the HM should instantly tender his resignation for his son’s alleged involvement in harassment of farmers and forcible acquisition of their lands.
He informed that Sandeep had given power of attorney to one Vishnu Mule (47) from Janjgir to purchase lands in Chhattisgarh for the company. “This can happen only in the BJP-ruled states where the ministers and their kins openly misuse power,” said Rao.
He informed that the Sandeep and Vishnu had purchased several hectares of land in villages like Gaud, Akaltari, Bhada, Kewa and Gandapali (all in Janjgir-Champa district).
On party’s June 26 rally against the BJP government, Rao said, “If the BJP wants to eradicate corruption from the country then it should first take action in those states where it is in power.”
He said the ministers in BJP-governed states were mired in corruption but their senior leaders rather hide their misdeeds. “This tradition can only be seen in BJP which believes in pointing out fingers towards other parties but never take corrective measures for its own corrupt leaders,” Rao said.
