Wasnik: Centre committed for upliftment of dalits, tribal



Raipur, June 14, 2011

The Union government is committed for upliftment of dalit and tribal communities of the country. In this connection, the Centre has launched various different schemes to connect the dalits and tribal with the mainstream life. The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik was informing about Congress-led UPA government’s programmes for dalits and tribal while he was addressing the party workers at Congress Bhawan on Tuesday.
“The Centre has increased the scholarship amount being distributed to the dalit and tribal students for pursuance of their education by sixty percent. Expectedly, about 70 lakh students would get benefited with this move,” Wasnik informed.
“Besides, the union government is also planning to hike the scholarship of dalit and tribal students studying in class 9th and 10th and hopes to benefit about 60 lakh students,” he added.
He further urged the partymen to unite and prepare for next Assembly and general elections. “The Congress can only regain power in Chhattisgarh when it would pose united challenge to the BJP,” he said.
Earlier, PCC president Nandkumar Patel and leader of Congress Legislators’ Party (CLP) Ravindra Choubey welcomed Wasnik at Congress Bhawan and informed him that the BJP government was harassing the party’s dalit and tribal presidents elected in civic bodies and panchayats.
On the occasion were present former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu, Satyanarayan Sharma, RMC Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Raipur DCC President Inderchand Dhariwal, legislators Kuldeep Juneja and Paresh Bagbahra, PCC spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani, PCC Sewa Dal’s state organiser Ashok Raj Ahuja and other Congress workers at large number.
