Govt to construct 137roads worth Rs 100 cr

To link the inaccessible areas and distantly located tribal villages of the state, mostly situated in naxal-infested districts, the government will construct 137 roads at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore in this financial year. The total length of these roads will be 407.40 kilometers. The roads will be constructed under the government’s rural road connectivity programme - Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Vikas Yojana (MGSVY), informed the officials of Panchayat and Rural Development Department on Wednesday.
According to information, the MGSVY will be accomplished in next three-five years.
The scheme will be implemented in those areas which have neither been covered under Centrally-sponsored Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) nor by the state’s Public Works Department (PWD), they said.
The government aims to provide road facilities in those distant tribal areas where population is less than 250. Similarly, in non-tribal areas, the roads will be constructed in those villages where population is less than 500.
The officials further informed that the MGSVY would connect the roads constructed under PMGSY and the PWD. This will also link the people dwelling in the remote inaccessible villages with the mainstream life, they said.
The government is planning to gradually raise the budget for MGSVY in the coming years.
The maximum number of roads under MGSVY will be constructed in Bilaspur district where 17 roads worth Rs 10.92 crore would be built, the officials informed. The total length of these roads will be 43.70 kilometers. In Raipur district, the government will construct 15 roads with 38 kilometers length and at an estimated cost of Rs 9.50 crore.
