Corruption high in BJP, but it is busy nagging others: Rao

Hitting back strongly at former BJP president Venkaiah Naidu for his critical remark against Congress, the PCC secretary incharge V Hanumantha Rao on Saturday said that the BJP habitually use indecent and unparliamentary language against other parties and Naidu was not an exception. “In fact, the BJP has no right to talk about eradication of corruption when majority of its leaders are suffering from this malady. There is a long list of corrupt leaders in the BJP, but it seems the party’s top brasses are hypermetropic and therefore they find faults only in other political parties,” said Rao while he was interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on Saturday.
“The UPA government never hesitated in taking action against former Union Telecom Minister A Raja, former CWG chief and Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan and DMK MP Kanimozhi, but why BJP is refraining from taking action against its corrupt leaders?” Rao asked.
“The level of corruption in BJP-ruled states in much high as compared to the other states of the country and the glaring example is Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa who is allegedly involved in land scam but still enjoying party’s support,” Rao said.
On fast-unto-death satyagrah called upon by Anna Hazare from August 16, 2011 seeking strong anti-graft Lokpal bill, Rao said the voice raised by the civil society against corruption and black money was welcoming but he and thereafter Swami Ramdev became political tool in hands of BJP, RSS and other communal outfits.
He further said that the civil society’s demand to bring Prime Minister within the ambit of Lokpal was unfair and said, “After President, the post of PM is of highest significance in the country and hence it should be kept away Lokpal’s domain.”
When asked his take over allegations of party workers against some of the senior leaders that they were working as B team of the BJP government, Rao said such charges do not carry importance till they are produced to the disciplinary committee with evidence. “Usually, those who do not get what they anticipate in the party, they start targeting others. It happens in all political parties and we simply ignore such superficial allegations,” he said.
