The Youth Congress (YC) will commence its statewide de-addiction campaign from June 6. The state YC president Uttam Vasudev informed that the organisation would organise the drive in four phases, i.e. first - signature campaign from June 6-15, second - agitation at block, Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha levels, third – traffic jams in protest against illegal sale of liquor shops and opening of liquor shops in public places and fourth – huger strike.
“We have consistently informed the state government and all district administrations to take proactive action against illegal liquor shops, but in vain,” said Vasudev while interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on Thursday.
He further said that the organisation would also launch membership drive across the state from June 16. The YC also aims to make five lakh new members through this drive. Notably, the YC elections would be organised in about 2200 panchayats and thereafter booth-level polls would be conducted.
The YC also constituted its women’s wing on Thursday. “The objective of forming women’s wing is to add more number of females with the organisation so that we could reach to large number of people,” he said.
“To increase the domain of YC’s women’s wing, a delegation of female members will tour different parts of the state,” he said.
The YC plans to organise massive women’s conference in September 2011.
The organisation will also start its padyatra to expose the BJP government from June 16. “The padyatra will be taken out for one month till July 15 and then we will gherao the Vidhan Sabha during monsoon session,” said Vasudev.
