Cong to govt: Procure farmers’ paddy at MSP

Alleging that the BJP government was apathetic towards the farmers of the state, the Congress warned of launching aggressive agitation against it if the farmers’ paddy would not be procured at minimum support price (MSP). “The BJP government superficially speaks of farmer, village and poor but rarely takes any initiative at practical footing. Farmers across the state are living in the abject condition for the past couple of years owing to the government’s indifference. The Congress will not tolerate injustice against farmers. Let them get their fair share in terms of MSP when the sell their paddy at cooperative societies,” said the PCC president Nandkumar Patel while he was speaking during the meting of Kisan Khet Majdoor Congress (KKMC) he had called upon at Congress Bhawan on Saturday. Patel said the government neither kept its promise of giving Rs 271 bonus to the farmers nor was providing free electricity to them for irrigation purpose. “In fact, the farmers are paying hefty power bills every month. They are not even getting adequate water for irrigation as the government is more interested in selling the river and dam water to the industries. The government is not even sparing the agricultural lands and is forcibly acquiring from the farmers so that the industrialists could establish their units,” said Patel.
On the occasion, the KKMC state coordinator Digvijay Singh Kridutt said, “The condition of the farmers is getting worse day-by-day. Hence, they should also get special legal security as being provided to the SC/ST community by the Centre.”
He said the KKMC along with the PCC leaders would demand from Union Agriculture Minister to provide Rs 1500 MSP against per quintal paddy procured.
He demanded high-level inquiry into the police action against the agitating farmers of Dhamtari and said the state government should immediately take back the case against all the farmers. He further said that the government should also revoke its decision to sell Rogda dam in Janjgir-Champa.
He said the KKMC under the aegis of PCC would continue to struggle for farmers and frequently demand from the government to provide all the basic facilities to the farmers and take initiative to improve their socio-economic conditions.
The meeting was attended by PCC incharge general secretary Subhash Sharma, legislator Rudra Guru, Bhupesh Baghel, Rajkumari Diwan, Alok Pandey, Naresh Gadpal, Jeetendra Singh Rana, Ajay Sahu, Ritesh Sharma, Vinay Agrawal, Dinesh Sharma, Daulal Chandrakar, Khemlal Sahu, Sushant Rao, Dushyant Ghorpade, Parmanand Adil and large number of KKMC workers.
