Cong: Centre must take control of naxal-infested areas of state

Raipur, June 10, 2011

Lashing out at the BJP government for failing to curb rising naxal violence in the state, the Congress requested from the Centre to take control of the Maoists-hit areas of Bastar region. “There is no trace of government in the naxal-affected areas. In this condition, the Centre should immediately take control of such areas so that that people there could live normal life,” said the PCC president Nandkumar Patel, leader of Congress Legislators (CLP) Ravindra Choubey, Korba Parliamentarian Charandas Mahant and PCC general secretary and spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani jointly on Friday.
“The Congress had apprehended must earlier that the stalemate between Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar and police administration would cost dear to the people of the state as not only Maoists but even the other criminals would take advantage of this situation. The repercussions are apparent. In past fifteen days, over 50 jawans lost their lives in naxal incidents,” they said.
The Congress leaders demanded from the Chief Minister Raman Singh to at least break his mysterious silence in aftermath of recent naxal violence. “It is surprising that the head of the state has nothing to say on continuous naxal violence. The Centre has provided all types of help to the state government to combat naxals but nothing has been done in this direction by far. The government’s inaction is intolerable,” the Congmen added.
They said the districts like Dantewada, Bijapur and Narayanpur had become epicenters of naxal activities, but the government never dared to take proactive action against the extremists in such areas. The Congress leaders said that the Centre must first take control of these three districts from the state.
