Prospective list of PCC delegates, district presidents to be changed

Raipur, June 15, 2011

The state Congress has decided to change the prospective list of delegates for PCC and AICC as well as district presidents. The decision was taken after the AICC general secretary and general secretary incharge of Chhattisgarh Congress BK Hariprasada asked the PCC president Nandkumar Patel to induct at least 33 percent women in the organisation. To change the list, Patel and leader of Congress Legislators’ Party (CLP) Ravindra Choubey were busy at former’s residence the entire day.
According to information, the PCC has to recommend 11 names for AICC and 115 for PCC. Patel had recently finalised the names but after Hariprasada’s instructions, he and Choubey are brooding over the names of many other candidates (both males and females) ensuring that no faction in the party may object over it.
The prospective list of district presidents will also be changed. There are 23 district units of Congress in the state. Sources informed that Patel is likely to give opportunity to women in about 12 seats.
The names will be finalised on the basis of recommendations of the senior party leaders, informed sources.
Notably, the state unit’s coordination committee had recently asked Patel to appoint PCC delegates and district presidents before June 30, 2011. On Thursday, Patel will hand over the amended list to Hariprasada who will finalise it along with chief of the Congress' Central Election Authority (CEA) Oscar Fernandes.
