Chana utsav disregard to martyred cops: Cong

Lashing out at the state government for organising pompous chana utsav programme at Jagdalpur just a couple of days after the naxal violence in Amabeda under Gariyaband development block (Raipur district) that killed nine cops including an Additional Superintendent of Police, the PCC said the Raman Singh government was insensitive and had disregarded the martyred security personnel.
“It is really surprising that instead of reconsidering its ineffective strategies to deal naxals, the government prioritised chana utsav programme which indicates that it has not sympathy towards the families of martyred cops,” said the PCC spokesperson Ramesh Varlyani on Monday.
“The government’s indifference towards people is not new. Ever since the BJP came in power, it has ignored public-related problems and has concentrated in exploiting the state. There is no progress in government’s anti-naxal campaign in the past seven years. Instead, the Maoists have succeeded in increasing their domain during BJP’s regime,” Varlyani said.
He alleged that the state government was misusing the funds released by the Centre to curb naxalism. “How much fund has the BJP government spent on naxal eradication? How much fund it has used in adopting high technology to deal the extremists? Will the government answer these questions so that people could know whether the funds released for the particular purpose were being used properly or not,” he said.
“The naxal incidents like Amabeda occur due to intelligence failure. The government is actually staking the lives of security personnel pressed in the naxal belts. It is an irony that the neither the Chief Minister and the Home Minister nor the relevant officials visit to the naxal-infested areas to know the ground reality,” he said.
Varlyani alleged hat the government was adopting casual attitude towards naxal problem because it wanted to deviate public attention from the cases of corruption and irregularities towards other matters like Maoism.
