Rains damage paddy worth over Rs 40 cr in state: Jogi

Former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi on Wednesday alleged that the BJP government was not sensitive towards food security and consequently paddy worth over 40 crore had been damaged during the current monsoon due to its management and inadequate storage facility.
Drawing attention of the Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Food & Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Professor KV Thomas towards corruption prevailed in the government’s public distribution system (PDS), Jogi said all the claims of Chief Minister Raman Singh pertaining to effective implementation of PDS in state was based on manipulated figures and intended to deceive the public as well as Centre.
“The fact is horrible in the state. The food grains never reach to the end beneficiaries and instead go to godowns of the black marketeers and businessmen. The BPL ration cards are being distributed to the ineligible families. About one lakh BPL cards were found bogus recently. Still the government is boasting of development across the state by misusing funds released by the Centre,” Jogi said.
He further indicated that irregularities prevailed in the Centrally-sponsored schemes being implemented in the state. “The Union government should instantly announce CBI probe into the entire matter and ensure that the state government may not misuse the Central funds in future,” Jogi demanded.
