Advani, Raman terms Mukherjee as great nationalist leader

Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani and Chief Minister Raman Singh have termed the founder of Bharatiya Jan Sangh Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee as great nationalist leader who sacrificed his life for the unity and integrity of India. The duo expressed their views about Mukherjee during the release of his biography at Kolkata recently.
“As far as Mukherjee’s legacy is concerned, everyone knows that even though Article 370 has not yet been repealed, many of the gains in terms of extending the Central government’s powers over Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) are directly the outcome of his struggle and sacrifice,” Advani said.
“The best way to carry forward his legacy is to finish the unfinished task of abrogation of Article 370 and achieve full and final integration of J&K into the Union of India,” he added.
“India paid and has been paying still a heavy price because successive Congress governments ignored Mukherjee’s warning in respect of J&K. India must not commit the same mistake in respect of the problem of illegal migrants from Bangladesh,” Advani said.
The CM said Mukherjee played key role in economical development of the country as first Union Industrial Minister of the country. He said Mukherjee’s struggles for country’s pride will always give inspiration to his government and the progeny to fight against terrorism, naxalism and all types of threats to the society and the nation.
On the occasion, he emphasised on better coordination between the Centre and naxal-infested state government to tackle naxal menace. “The morale of the security personnel pressed in the naxal belts is high. My government is committed to rid Bastar from naxalism and bring back peace and development there,” he said.
