Holding the state government responsible for delay in Centrally-sponsored housing project launched under Basic Service to the Urban Poor (BSUP) which eventually resulted in Centre’s stern decision to cut down total number of houses by over 10000, the Pradesh Congress Sewa Dal said that the government should compensate the loss and must construct houses for poor at its own cost.
“The BJP government was supposed to build 27976 houses under BSUP at an estimated cost of Rs 391 crores. The project started in 2007, but in spite of completion of four years none of the dwelling units has been given to any of the poor by far. The government’s failure in accomplishing the task in the given timeframe resulted in rise in the estimated cost of the project from Rs 391 crores to Rs 430 crores. The Centre did not tolerate state government’s lethargy and said only 17647 houses would be constructed,” said Dal’s state organiser Ashok Raj Ahuja.
He said the poor would not allow the state government to victimise them and would launch aggressive movement against it they would be kept deprived of the houses they deserve. He warned the government of launching massive protest movement if it would not build the remaining houses for poor curtailed by the Centre.
