YC members arrested while demonstration, sent to jail

The Youth Congress (YC) members led by their state president Uttam Vasudev were arrested by police on Thursday while they were going to Raj Bhavan in the form of padyatra to submit a memorandum to Governor Shekhar Dutt regarding recent police action against Congress leaders. The police arrested 18 YC members out of about hundred near new civic head office and sent them to jail. The other YC members tried to get bail for their arrested leaders but failed.
“We wanted to meet Governor because the BJP government has started harassing Congress leaders by misusing its powers. Under its planned conspiracy, the government has directed the police to file criminal cases against the Congress leaders. We strongly protest the government’s attitude and hence decided to seek Governor’s intervention into this matter,” said Vasudev who too has been sent to jail.
Later, the YC vice-president Saurabh Mishra informed that his organisation would burn the effigy of the BJP government on Friday in all the 90 Vidhan Sabha areas. “We will not keep quiet. We will continue raising our voice democratically. Hence, we will first burn effigy of the government and then demonstrate till our fellow members get released,” Mishra said.
Besides Vasudev, the police arrested YC’s state co-incharge Paresh Dharani, IYC member Vikas Upadhyay, state YC general secretary Asif Memon, YC’s Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari, Sameer Chouhan, Pradeep Mishra, Pankaj Mishra, Tinku Memon and others.
