Govt ignoring Bastarians on pretext of naxalism: Patel

The PCC president Nandkumar Patel has alleged that the government was deliberately ignoring Bastarians on pretext of naxalism. “There is no development in Bastar in past seven years. In fact, the condition of the locals is horrible.  Thanks to apathy of the BJP government which kept on misusing Central funds released counter naxalism and for development of Bastar during this period,” said Patel after returning from his three-day tour to Bastar on Thursday.
He said after Janjgir-Champa, Raigarh and Korba, the government had also acquired lands from people forcibly in Bastar. “We have gathered evidence that the government has forcibly acquired large tracts of lands from tribals in Kanker for jungle warfare training. By far, none of the land owners has received compensation. Similarly, over 200 acres of tribal lands has been acquired by the government for one Andhra Pradesh-based company in Dantewada,” Patel said.
“It is unfortunate that the government is trying to save the officials involved in forcible land acquisition cases,” he added.
On living condition of Bastarians, Patel said majority of people dwelling in remote areas do not have ration cards owing to which they do not get rice and other food grains under different governmental schemes. “All of food grains meant for the poor tribals are going in the godowns of middlemen, but the government claims that its scheme were being implemented effectively in the state,” he charged.
“The farmers in Bastar do not get irrigation facility. The youth in this region are unemployed. The government’s literacy campaign is running only on papers and people are migrating due to naxal terror and lack of basic facilities,” he said.
Patel said naxalism had deeply hit the districts like Dantewada, Bijapur and Narayanpur and urged from the Centre to take direct control of the three regions.
