The state government’s Sanjeevni Kosh Yojana has benefited about 3673 patients since its commencement, i.e. from year 2001 to June 30, 2010. The officials of Health and Family Welfare Department informed that the government had provided financial aid of Rs 27.79 crore to the eligible beneficiaries for treatment under this scheme in the past ten years.
The officials further informed that the scheme was launched for patients living below poverty line (BPL). The prominent diseases for which the financial aid is given diseases related to heart, kidney and cancer.
According to data provided by the department’s officials, about 2729 heart patients, 534 cancer patients and 410 others suffering from grave diseases got new lease of life through this scheme since its commencement.
The officials informed that the government had already spent about Rs 8.96 lakh on nine patients suffering from different diseases in the first quarter of the current financial year.
Notably, the scheme was started with an aim to provide monetary help to the financially weaker section of the society which could not incur the expensive medical treatment procedures.
Besides BPL families, the government also provides financial assistance under the scheme to the labourers who get injure while working in industries and farmers while engaged in farming. The scheme is only meant for those poor people who are native of Chhattisgarh. The fund is being given when the patient would undergo treatment only in the government recognised hospitals or private nursing homes.
The officials informed that the eligible beneficiaries can obtain application for financial aid from Collectorate, civil surgeon or from office of the chief medical and health officer.
