Govt opens 500 high schools




The School Education Department has opened 500 new high schools in the current academic session. The admission process in these schools has started from June 16, 2011 under the government’s Shala Pravesh Utsav programme. The department’s officials informed that the high schools had been opened under upgradation process of the middle schools. Notably, the School Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal had announced about opening of 500 new high schools during the budget session of the state Assembly in March 2011. The number of schools opened in different districts are – Bastar – 27, Bijapur – 3, Bilaspur – 48, South Bastar (Dantewada) – 8, Dhamtari – 16, Durg – 58, Janjgir-Champa – 44, Jashpur – 4, Kawardha (Kabeerdham) – 14, North Bastar (Kanker) – 36, Korba – 22, Koria – 22, Mahasamund – 27, Narayanpur – 3, Raigarh – 25, Raipur – 63, Rajnandgaon- - 35 and Sarguja – 45.
