Chhattisgarh becomes first state in country to implement it
After getting nationwide appreciation for its effective implementation of public distribution system (PDS) and updating the entire procedure in the official website of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department, the government has now made the allotment and distribution process of kerosene online. The announcement was done by the department’s minister Punnulal Mohle while he was addressing the representatives of different oil companies, state level convenor of oil sector, officials of National Centre for Science Information (NCSI) and Food Controllers and officials at New Circuit House on Wednesday.
“Chhattisgarh has once again become first state in the country in making kerosene online distribution online after successfully computerising PDS,” the minister said.
“The government decided to computerise kerosene allocation and distribution process to ensure transparency in it. Till date, the kerosene distribution was being done manually owing to which the fair price shops were getting the stock late and consequently the eligible beneficiaries were facing inconvenience. Now, with all the procedures going online, the shop owners will receive kerosene stock timely,” Mohle said.
“The online distribution will also check misuse and black marketing of kerosene,” he added.
He informed that the allocation of kerosene would be done to all the 10827 fair price shops across the state within an hour through internet. “Even the Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs KV Thomas during his recent visit had expressed his satisfaction over online PDS implementation in the state and recommended for adopting it as prototype in other parts of the country,” Mohle said.
The department’s Principal Secretary Vivek Dhand informed that all 93 kerosene dealers would be provided point of sale (POS) and smart cards. Similarly, the department will also give smart cards to the fair price shop owners. “With kerosene allocation and distribution going online, the department will track the entire procedure. There will be updated information in the website about tankers released from depots and their reach timings along with the amount of kerosene distributed to fair price shops,” he said.
On the occasion, the NCSI official Somshekhar gave presentation on online kerosene distribution process.
