Cong finds two more forcible land acquisition cases in Bastar




After hitting hard at the state government for forcibly acquiring agricultural lands from farmers of Janjgir-Champa and providing it to the industrialists to establish power plants, the Congress has now discovered two more such cases in Kanker and Dantewada where several acres of tribal lands have been acquired illegally. The Congress leaders are now collecting all the evidences related to these two land acquisition cases and is planning to raise the issue strongly in coming days.
The Congress leaders including PCC president Nandkumar Patel, Satyanarayan Sharma and Bhupesh Baghel came across the land acquisition cases while they were interacting with the partymen during their Bastar tour on Wednesday. They learnt that the government had forcibly acquired several acres of tribal lands for jungle war training and had not yet given compensation to the land owners. Similarly, the party workers informed that the government had given over 200 acres of tribal lands to one Andhra Pradesh-based company in Dantewada.
According to information, senior leader Mahendra Karma and Lakheshwar Baghel have provide some significant documental evidence in connection to the land acquisition cases in Kanker and Dantewada.
Notably, the Congress recently mounted pressure on the BJP government to remove Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar for supporting his son Sandeep who was allegedly involved in forcible acquisition of lands from tribals in Janjgir-Champa. Sandeep was hired by Videocon Industries Limited Mumbai as PRO and he reportedly purchased lands on his name did the payment through company cheques. In this connection, the Congress also met Governor Shekhar Dutt and sought his intervention into the matter to protect the farmers’ lands. Later, the government buckled down and announced to return the sold lands to the tribals.
