Shift proposed toll plaza out of city: Cong to NHAI

Protesting the proposed toll plaza near Sarona at Ring Road No 1 the Congress has demanded from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to shift it out of the city. In this connection, the DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal, general secretary Dr Niranjan Haritwal and other Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the NHAI chief engineer Vijay Shrivastava on Wednesday and questioned the feasibility of constructing toll plaza near Sarona.
They further demanded from the Authority to exempt all the vehicles registered at Raipur (i.e. registration number starting with CG 04). They categorically said that they would not allow construction of toll plaza near Sarona.
The toll plaza is being constructed by one Delhi-based agency - DS Constructions which has been hired by the NHAI to carry out its fourlane project from Tatibandh to Arang via Ring Road No 1. This is the same company that has earlier completed the fourlane project from Raipur to Bhilai and was in controversy for constructing toll plazas at Kumhari and near Nehru Nagar Bhilai.
Earlier, this company started constructing toll plaza near Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar at Ring Road No 1 but had to stop the work after the protests of Congress and locals followed by seizure of its construction materials by the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC).
“The intention of DS Constructions is to recover heavy toll from the locals and hence it has selected the spot for toll plaza inside the municipal limits twice – first near Deendayal Upadhyay Nagar and then near Sarona. We will sternly protest and will aggressively demonstrate if the agency would ignore our warning and violate the civic norms,” the congress leaders said.
