The state government has received financial grant of Rs 67.63 crore under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP). The fund is the first installment in the current financial year for 37 new minor irrigation projects, informed the Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department NK Aswal on Monday. “The state government had sent a proposal of Rs 250 crore for 49 minor irrigation projects for 2011-12. This was the first installment which was released on July 12. The second installment is likely to be released in next couple of months,” Aswal said. Notably, the Centre launched AIBP back in 1996-1997 to provide loan assistance to the states to help them complete some of the incomplete major, medium and minor irrigation projects which were at an advanced stage of completion and to create additional irrigation potential in the country.
