State government has opened seven new colleges in the remote and tribal areas in the fresh academic session 2011. The Higher Education Minister Hemchand Yadav informed that the government had opened 56 colleges in past seven years. The state had 116 government colleges in 2003.
Yadav informed that the government opened six colleges in 2005, nine colleges each in 2006 and 2007, 14 in 2008, five in 2009 and six in 2010.
The districts where seven new government colleges have been opened in 2011 are –Jamgaon-R and Amrikala (Durg), Odgi and Sanawal (Sarguja), Pandatarai (Kabeerdham), Pamgarh (Janjgir-Champa) and Konta (Dantewada). The officials said the students of the four areas would not have to go elsewhere for higher education with the commencement of government institute. Now, the state has 172 government colleges in its urban, rural and remote areas.
In 2005, the government opened colleges in – Kawardha (Kabeerdham), Mahasamund (Mahasamund), Thankhamaria, Gunderdehi (Durg), Lailunga (Raigarh) and Chhura (Raipur).
In 2006, the government opened colleges in – Keshkal (Jagdalpur), Bijapur (Bijapur), Antagarh (Kanker), Undaipur (Sarguja), Daundi and Daundilohara (Durg), Devbhog (Raipur), Janjgir and Sakti (Janjgir-Champa).
In 2007, the government opened colleges in – Marwahi (Bilaspur), Mohla (Rajnandgaon), Bagicha (Jashpur), Dantewada (Dantewada), Baikunthpur (Koria), Dharamjaigarh (Raigarh), Gurur (Durg), Bodla (Kabeerdham) and Jaijaipur (Janjgir-Champa).
In 2008, the government opened colleges in – Janakpur (Koria), Tamnar (Raigarh), Vishramupur and Balrampur (Sarguja), Bhapuri (Jagdalpur), Belra and Khertha (Durg), Baloda and Hasaud (Janjgir-Champa), Kartala and Dipka (Korba), Gharghoda (Raigarh), Ramanujnagar (Sarguja) and Bhakhara (Dhamtari).
In 2009, the government opened colleges in – Silphili (Sarguja), Bakawand (Jagdalpur), Tapkara (Jashpur) and Gobra-Nawapara and Lavan (Raipur).
In 2010, the six new colleges were opened in Rajpur and Bhaiyyathan (Sarguja), Khadgawan (Koria), Barpali (Korba), Duldula (Jashpur) and Sargaon (Bilaspur).
