Chief
minister Raman Singh has appealed to farmers not to pay additional charges at
paddy procurement centres indicating that government had made adequate
arrangements to smoothen purchasing process beforehand.
“The farmers do not
need to spend extra bucks at procurement centres as the government will pay Rs
42 per quintal of paddy to the cooperative societies,” Singh said through his
letter to farmers on Wednesday.
He assured the
farmers that his government was committed to purchase their paddy at minimum
support price (MSP) like previous years.
“We have arranged
Rs 8000 crore to procure farmers’ paddy this year. This amount if Rs 2000 crore
more than the previous year’s figures,” he said.
Appealing to
farmers to take maximum benefit of paddy procurement system, Singh said they simply
needed to sell their thick paddy at Rs 1250 per quintal and fine paddy at Rs
1280 per quintal without shelling out extra bucks at cooperative societies.
He urged the
farmers residing in state’s peripheral districts to remain vigilant on flow of
paddy from adjoining states.
The government is
purchasing paddy at MSP through its 1895 procurement centres since November 1,
2012. The paddy will be purchased against cash till January 31, 2013 through
linking process till February 15, 2013. The government targets to procure 68.55
lakh MT paddy this year.
