The Chhattisgarh bandh called by Congress to express ire against Kanker rape incident deeply affected life in capital city that came to a virtual halt on Wednesday. State Congress president Nandkumar Patel, former chief minister Ajit Jogi and other senior leaders in separate teams were seen inspecting a couple of city roads to see the affect of bandh.
The Congress workers were seen moving frequently in their assigned areas since morning to make the bandh successful. They were constantly sloganeering against the government.
At Jaistambh chowk, there was minor scuffle between security personnel and Congress workers when latter tried to forcibly shut some of the shops. There was heated exchange between cops and the activists for sometime before senior police officials reached the spot to deal the matter.
Similarly, large number of Congress workers gathered before Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar’s house and started sloganeering against him and the government for not maintaining law and order. They were also demanding justice for rape victims and stern action against the guilty persons. When the cops could not persuade the activists to peacefully move away, IG GP Singh had to come to spot to handle the situation. Later, the police canecharged the Congress workers to disperse them and arrested about 40.
People, on the other hand, face inconvenience due to bandh. Several motorists were seen moving from pillar to post to fill petrol in their vehicles but in vain as all the petrol pumps in the city were closed. Similarly with auto rickshaws supporting the bandh, the local transportation system of the city too was heavily affected.
YC workers resorted to Gandhigiri
The YC workers led by their national general secretary Vikas Upadhyay resorted to Gandhigiri by to make the bandh successful. They wore Gandhi caps appealed to the shopkeepers to keep their business establishments closed in vegetable market at Shastri bazaar, Malviya road, Jaistambh chowk, Moudhapara, MG road, Station road, Gudhiyari, Shrinagar, Kota, Tatibandh, Raipura, Sundar Nagar, Lakhe Nagar, Amapara, Vivekanand Ashram, Ramsagar Para, Pandri, etc.
Upadhyay was accompanied by Akash Tiwari, Pramod Dubey, Sheikh Musheer, Shadik, Amit Sharma, Deepak Agrawal, Vimal Gupta, Haidar Ali, Aziz Bhinsara, Yash Gurjar, Saddam, Sumit Chhabda, etc.
Cong business cell asks CM to resign
The members of Congress business cell asked chief minister Raman Singh to tender his resignation on moral grounds in wake of Kanker incident. The cell’s state president Kanhaiyya Agrawal and other members sloganeered against the government and urged shopkeepers at Gol Bazar, Banjari road, fruit market and Phool chowk to keep their business establishments closed in support of rape victims.
Agrawal was accompanied by Jageshwar Rajput, Nishchay Bajpayee, Atul Raghuvanshi, Radheshyam Vibhar, Rahil Raufi, Athish Sahu, Nandu Yadu, Mohammad Ashraf, etc.
Seva Dal made peaceful appeal
The members of Congress Seva Dal led by their state organiser Ashok Raj Ahuja made peaceful appeal to the shopkeepers of Station chowk, Fafadih chowk, Durga College chowk, Gurunanak chowk, Rathor chowk and Telghani Naka chowk to support bandh. Meanwhile, the Seva Dal members also requested Deshbandhu English School and Syndicate bank managements to close their operations for the day.
On the occasion, Ahuja was accompanied by Shyam Bavne, Bhola Ram Karma, Kishan Bazari, Faguram Sonwani, Dr Lokesh Sahu, Narayan Pandey, Sachin Singhare, Nandkumar Netam, Sangeeta Chandrakar, etc.
LJP burns CM’s effigy
Supporting the state bandh, the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) workers led by their Raipur Urban president Vishwanath Rajbhar burnt the effigy of chief minister Raman Singh. The LJP appealed the people to dethrone BJP in upcoming assembly polls. On the occasion were present Harsh Gajbhiye, Yashwant Baghel, Shriram Futan, Saurabh Dharkar, Arun Choudhary, Ashish Jagesh, Shankar, Manish Pal, etc.
Congmen stop train
Demanding action against rapists and urging people to make bandh successful, large number of Congress workers including Gudhiyari BCC president Ghanshyam Raju Tiwari and corporator Jasbeer Singh Dhillon reached Railway station on Wednesday morning and stopped Durg-Patna South Bihar express for about thirty minutes.
