Slamming chief minister Raman Singh for not visiting rape victims and their parents, Congress on Tuesday said he was supposed to take stock of the situation by reaching girls’ hostel at village Jhaliyamari under Narharpur block in Kanker district as soon as he learnt about the inhuman act but he did not do that because he could not gather courage to go there.
“The government’s pretext that CM is refraining to visit incidental village to keep identity of rape victims hidden is ridiculous. After Delhi gangrape incident, union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Delhi CM Sheila Dixit too visited the victim but the latter’s identity remained concealed. The CM too could have visited Kanker rape victims by keeping the publicity medium away,” said state Congress president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
“The people of tribal community had sent their children to Jhaliyamari girls’ hostel because they trusted the government, but the rape incident has shattered them and they are feeling betrayed,” the duo said.
They alleged that the CM had become insensitive towards public problems. “Instead of taking firm steps at ground-level to prevent rape incidents, the CM is engaged in giving empty statements.
