Holding government responsible for rising suicidal cases in state, a delegation of Congress members on Wednesday submitted memorandum to Raipur collector on the name of CM Raman Singh.
In the memorandum, the delegation said about 6775 persons committed suicide amidst April 2012 to July 2013.
“During this period, the suicidal rate was more in rural pockets, i.e. 88%. According to figures, majority of the people who killed themselves were between 20-29 years of age. Evidently, they were compelled to take such step because the government completely failed to create employment opportunities for them,” said DCC Raipur Urban unit chief Vikas Upadhyay.
He said national crime record bureau (NCRB) had placed Chhattisgarh in fifth place among 13 states where suicidal cases rapidly increased in past couple of years.
On the occasion, Upadhyay was accompanied by Sandeep Tiwari, Akash Tiwari, Sanjay Chouhan, Sunil Bhuwal, Aditya Malge, Vimal Gupta, Dinesh Futan, etc.
