Farmers’ upset with state’s land revenue law: Cong

Raipur, September 12, 2013

Congress on Thursday said that state farmers were severely upset with Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code (Amendment) Act 2013 as they would have to mandatorily comply with the Act if they wish to sell their agricultural lands.

“The government implemented this Act to benefit a bunch of influential people who including ministers, officials and industrialists who had invested their black money in lands. By making a stringent law, the government is assured that land rates of these influential people would rise,” said PCC spokesperson Sushil Shukla.

“Under this law, a farmer cannot sell his agricultural lands to non-farmers. Now, if any farmer wants to sell his lands during crisis, he would have to first prove whether the buyer is a farmer or not. This is a harassing process. The farmer will also get low rate of his land due to intricacies of the law,” he said.

He pointed that the Act also amends land diversion procedures and increases diversion fee by 5-10 times than the existing one. “In this scenario, the common man would not be able to divert his lands while an influential person will not only divert his lands but also sell them at higher rates,” he added.
