Congress workers led by DCC Raipur Urban president Vikas Upadhyay on Monday gheraoed Raipur municipal corporation’s (RMC) zone 8 office for failing to make adequate arrangements at its counter for cardholder beneficiaries who returned home empty-hand after waiting whole day to obtain token to receive sewing machine and bicycle gratis under government’s scheme.
“On Monday morning, the yellow cardholders of zone 8 and 9 learnt that sewing machines and bicycles will be distributed by the municipal at zone 8 office. Hence, about 1000 beneficiaries formed queue before zone 8 office but only 50 could obtain tokens for the said purpose because there were only two officials to do the job. Meanwhile, there was no facility for the people standing in queue,” said Upadhyay.
In this connection, he said, the Congress would also gherao labour department’s headoffice on Tuesday.
He said the municipal should open counter in every ward beneficiaries so that they may not face inconvenience.
