Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi has reportedly given approval to single names proposed for 51 assembly seats by state unit in Chhattisgarh. The decision on remaining 49 seats might take time as organisational and Ajit Jogi camps seemed adamant in fielding their respective candidates in those constituencies.
The organisational camp had already forwarded shortlisted names for all the assembly seats to Chhattisgarh Congress incharge BK Hariprasada. The party’s poll and screening committees too seemed convinced by proposed names. However, unanimous decision on the names could not be taken due to Jogi’s objection.
Jogi, who has claimed about 45-50 tickets for his supporters in Vidhan Sabha polls, has tossed a new formula which, according to him, can create win-win situation for the party in both assembly and general elections.
Under his formula, Jogi wants some of the senior party leaders including sitting MLAs to skip Vidhan Sabha polls and directly prepare for Lok Sabha elections. He also wants to change assembly constituencies of some of the MLAs and other probable poll candidates.
It is learnt that Jogi has even suggested high command to change CLP leader Ravindra Choubey’s assembly constituency from Saja to Bemetara by reasoning that the latter’s victory margin shrunk in past two VS polls. More interestingly, he has recommended his staunch supporter Yogesh Tiwari’s name for Bemetara seat.
The organisation camp is said to be frustrated by Jogi’s formula as it fears that many of its poll candidates would be pruned if the latter succeeds in persuading the high command.
