Congmen oppose Hora, Markam’s poll candidature

Raipur, September 14, 2013

The Congress workers from Dhamtari and Nagri Sihava assembly constituencies on Saturday met party’s state incharge BK Hariprasada separately and demanded ticket for local candidates instead of sitting MLAs Gurmukh Singh Hora and Ambika Markam respectively.

The two groups demonstrated at New Circuit House from where Hariprasada, alongwith union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh, PCC chief Charandas Mahant and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, later left for Abhanpur.

The party workers from Dhamtari led by former MLA Harshad Mehta told Hariprasada that they would not support Hora if he gets ticket again. Terming Hora as outsider, they said ticket should be given to local candidate. They further said since Dhamtari had history of not repeating any candidate, Hora had least chance of victory from the constituency.

Notably, Hora’s ticket is said to be final due to his proximity with Mahant and party’s indications of keeping tickets of sitting MLAs intact.

Mehta, who belonged to party legislator Ajit Jogi’s camp, reportedly wants to contest from Dhamtari and hence tried to mount pressure on Hariprasada and Mahant by claiming support of local Congmen. Besides, Mehta, another Jogi supporter - former YC leader Anand Pawar too is in race of ticket from Dhamtari.

Another group of Congress workers from Nagri Sihava led by ex-union minister Madhav Singh Dhruv told Hariprasada that Markam’s candidature should be ignored this time as she did not do anything for her constituency in five years.

Pointing that Markam failed to bring muster crowd of Mahila Congress when party’s kalash yatra recently reached Nagri Sihava, the workers said she had lost their trust and they would not campaign for her if she gets chance to contest Vidhan Sabha polls again.
