Kurud Congmen oppose Lekhram Sahu’s poll candidature

Raipur, September 18, 2013

About 75 Congress workers from Kurud Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday opposed sitting MLA Lekhram Sahu’s poll candidature from the area and demanded ticket for some other candidate. In favour of their demand, they also demonstrated CLP leader Ravindra Choubey’s residence.

In the absence of PCC president Charandas Mahant, who is in New Delhi at present, the party workers from Kurud decided to convey their message to high command by demonstrating before Choubey’s residence.

They sloganeered against Sahu and said since the latter had lost trust of partymen in the region, he should be given ticket from elsewhere.

Later, Choubey talked to some of the demonstrators including former MLA Chandrahas Sahu, Bhakhara nagar panchayat president Bharat Nahar, district panchayat member Neelam Chandrakar, Rekha Sahu, Rajendra Sahu etc. In the meeting, he reportedly expressed his ire over the manner the Kurud Congmen attempted to put their matter. He is also said to have assured them to convey their message to Mahant.

It was the third open protest against candidature any sitting MLA in the party as just recently the Congress workers from Dhamtari and Nagri Sihava VS areas had expressed similar feelings to party’s state incharge BK Hariprasada against sitting MLAs Gurmukh Singh Hora and Ambika Markam.

While state leadership has already forwarded panel of potential candidates from each constituency, it would be difficult for the high command to ignore demands of workers who know ground reality of the MLAs in their areas.
