Cong screening panel meet likely on Sept 10

Raipur, September 03, 2013

Congress screening committee’s meeting is likely to be convened at New Delhi on September 10 to finalise poll candidates for 47 assembly seats. According to information, the party’s poll committee has prepared single-name panel for each of 47 seats and five-name panel for each of remaining 43 seats.

The panels of 47 seats include names of all existing legislators as well as recently inducted MLA in party Saurabh Singh from Bahujan Samaj Party and Nobel Verma from Nationalist Congress Party. While Singh’s candidature has been kept intact from his existing constituency Akaltara, Verma’s name has been proposed for Chadrapur Vidhan Sabha area from where he had won in the past.

The single-name panels further include Umesh Patel (son of late PCC chief Nandkumar Patel) from Kharsia, Devki Karma (spouse of late Mahendra Karma) from Dantewada, Alka Mudliyar (spouse of late Uday Mudliyar) from Rajnandgaon, Bhupesh Baghel from Patan, Dhanendra Sahu from Abhanpur, Arun Vora from Durg and Satyanarayan Sharma from Raipur Rural.

The poll panel has also proposed name of senior party MLA Ajit Jogi’s son Amit for Beltara VS area. Presently, Jogi and his spouse Dr Renu are MLAs from Marwahi and Kota VS areas respectively. In case, Amit gets ticket, the screening committee might ask Jogi to prepare for Lok Sabha elections and filed some other candidate from Marwahi.

The screening committee is likely to evolve consensus over 47 seats amicably in wake of Jogi’s softer tone since recent past after his meeting panel chairman CP Joshi.
