Several ticket aspirants including PCC office-bearers meet state unit president Charandas Mahant at Congress Bhawan on Friday. Their main objective was to win Mahant’s confidence and get recommended by him during party’s election committee meeting slated to be held at New Delhi on September 1, 2013.
Senior party leaders Satyanarayan Sharma, Rajendra Tiwari and PCC vice president Baijnath Chandrakar too held separate talks with Mahant.
Late party leader Vidya Charan Shukla’s daughter and PCC vice president Pratibha Pandey also reached Congress Bhawan and held talks with Mahant for about 90 minutes.
Pandey is said to have discussed over prospective candidates for assembly seats under Mahasamund Lok Sabha constituency. She has reportedly advocated for candidature of her father’s supporters from those assembly seats.
According to information, Mahant told the ticket aspirants that only winnable candidates would be given tickets and final list would be shortlisted by the party’s poll and screening committees.
He further told the aspirants that the party was no more receiving applications from candidates as it had already listed five names from every Vidhan Sabha area on recommendations of district and block heads and the poll and screening panels would discuss on only those names.
