Reacting sharply over BJP’s critical remark on hike in minimum support
price (MSP) of paddy by Centre, Congress said the state ruling party should
first fulfil its promise of disbursing Rs 270 bonus to farmers before
criticising UPA government’s welcoming move.
“There
was no need of terming the paddy MSP hike “inadequate” when the BJP-led NDA
government itself did not do much for the farmers during its regime from 1999
to 2004,” said former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu and Congress leader
Satyanarayan Sharma.
“The
Congress-led UPA government increased the paddy MSP by Rs 450 in its first
term, i.e. during 2004-2009. Then, it hiked the paddy MSP by Rs 350 in four
years in its second term (2009-2013). Contrarily, the BJP-led NDA government
hiked the paddy MSP merely by Rs 60 in five years. This shows BJP’s anti-farmer
face,” they indicated.
“The
Centre hiked paddy MSP recently to benefit the farmers while by not disbursing
Rs 270 bonus despite making a promise the state BJP government has deceived the
farmers,” they said.
They
asked the state ruling party to follow the suit of UPA government and fulfill its
promise of bonus disbursal amounting Rs 3880 crore.
“The farmers have right to get paddy MSP and
bonus announced on it but by refusing to pay the bonus amount, the state
government is betraying the,,” they said.
