Govt do not want to deal naxal issue: Jogi

Raipur, January 14, 2013

Senior Congress MLA Ajit Jogi on Monday said that the BJP government did not want to deal naxal issue as was evident by its indifferent attitude.

“The Congress-led UPA government is extending every possible help to Chhattisgarh to maintain law & order and create peaceful environment for development but the ruling BJP in the state does not seem interested in wiping opt Maoists,” said Jogi.

“To deal naxals, the Centre has provided over 18 helicopters and thousands of security personnel to Chhattisgarh besides opening army training centre in Kanker and Mahasamund. The Centre is also giving ample fund to beef up police infrastructure, intelligence. Funds have also been giving to modernise police stations in tribal belts. Unfortunately, the government has not used these funds properly,” he alleged.

“In fact, the government’s weak administration and lack of commitment to implement developmental schemes like PMGSY, MNREGA, etc has resulted in misuse of central funds meant for these schemes,” he charged.

He said the government’s claims of development in tribal regions were false and qualified to papers.

“The villagers and public representatives in tribal areas are still being killed. The government has completely failed to check smuggling of diamond, iron, coal, etc. Tribal women and girls in ashram schools are being raped. Problem of unemployment has compelled tribal people to migrate to other states. In this backdrop, how come the government boast of development,” he said.

“The government does not want to address the naxal problem because it aims to regain power once again through bogus voting in naxal-infested areas,” he said.

Holding the ruling BJP responsible for killing of several innocent people and jawans in naxal incidents, Jogi asked the government to step down.
