Congress on Monday said the government’s vindictive behaviour with Shikshakarmis, after the latter called off their strike, was intolerable.
“The government had either suspended or terminated several Shikshakarmis during latter’s strike. The step was unconstitutional. Now, when these Shikshakarmis want to return to work, the government is refusing to accept their joining letters,” said Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla.
“The Shikshakarmis were severely upset with the government’s impassiveness towards their strike. They also did not want to spoil school studies due to their strike. Hence, they decided to call off their 38-day strike without any result. By doing their, they proved how responsible they are towards students’ future but the government is yet to realise its responsibility” he said.
Indicating that the government’s vindictive behaviour was only affecting school studies, he said in democracy everyone has right to go on peaceful strike in favour of his demand and Shikshakarmis too did the same. In fact, the government vengeful act towards Shikshakarmis is undemocratic step now,” he said.
“The Congress vociferously condemns and opposes government’s repressive action against the Shikshakarmis and asks it to immediately recall all the contract teachers whom it had suspended/terminated during strike,” he said.
He also reminded the ruling party of it poll manifesto and said it should quickly fulfil the demands of 180000 Shikshakarmis.
