NSUI agitation will not stop: Bharat Kumar

Raipur, January 15, 2013

The national vice president of NSUI Bharat Kumar says that the organisation will continue to protest against the government till it takes stern action against Kanker rapists.

“We were protesting and marching peacefully towards Rajbhavan. We had taken prior appointment pertaining to submission of memorandum to Governor Shekhar Dutt on Kanker rape incident. However, the police prevented us to move ahead from Motibagh. We requested the police officials that a delegation of NSUI will go and submit the memorandum to the Governor but they put deaf ears towards us. Eventually, the police started lathicharge injuring about 38 NSUI workers,” Kumar told Central Chronicle condemning the Tuesday lathicharge on NSUI workers.

He alleged that the police especially targeted student leaders by taking them to Netaji Subhash stadium on pretext of arrest and beat them ruthlessly.

Slamming the government for failing to prevent rising rape incidents, he said the government never posed seriousness towards women abuse cases and therefore shocking incidents surfaced in areas like Kanker, Amadola and Nagri.

“There are many more remote areas where tribal girls are being victimised but the government is busy in celebrating foundation day of newly formed districts,” Kumar ridiculed.

Demanding issuance of while paper on status of SC and ST hostels of state, he advocated for President’s rule in Chhattisgarh if the government fails to take suitable action against rapists in coming days.

He further said that soon the NSUI would demonstrate against Chhattisgarh government on Kanker incident and Tuesday lathicharge at New Delhi.

Patel, Choubey condemns lathicharge

PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey have condemned police lathicharge on NSUI activists while they were protesting Kanker rape incident. “Suppressing students’ voice using police force in democracy is unconstitutional. The students were protesting peacefully when the police suddenly started lathicharge on them. Once again, the BJP government’s tyrannical face has been exposed,” the duo said.
