Yadav denies assault charges against him at jail

Raipur, January 17, 2013

Denying assault charges against him at Raipur Central Jail (RCJ), suspended NSUI president Devendra Yadav on Thursday claimed that he was innocent and he and his supporters never fought with organisation’s vice president Subodh Haritwal in the prison as was reported by the media.

“It was the job of some anti-social elements, but Haritwal lodged false complaint against me and my supporters,” wrote Yadav to Devendra Nagar police station incharge demanding registration of case against Haritwal.

Yadav said that Haritwal’s rancour against him became public after the latter contrived to sully his image through a canard. “Haritwal fabricated a false story of bribery by conducted sting operation on me,” he said.

Notably, several NSUI members including Yadav and Haritwal were arrested by the police under section 151 of IPC when they were advancing towards Rajbhavan to submit memorandum pertaining to Kanker rape incident to Governor on January 15.

The police sent the activists to RCJ where, according to Haritwal, Yadav and his supporters beat the former late at night.
