Demand to start PG course in physiotherapy

Raipur, September 11, 2012

The students of Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) have demanded from the Government Physiotherapy College (GPC) to start post graduation (PG) course soon pointing that the passouts are compelled to go to other states to obtain higher degree in the discipline.

In this connection, the final year students of 2008-09 batch wrote a letter to GPC principal recently. They said the BPT course started in the year 2002 but even after ten years the college did not take initiative in starting the PG course.

The students also indicated towards host of other requisites and problems of the college, prominently towards limited teaching faculty despite large number of sanctioned posts. The college also lacked teaching aids, appliances, machinery and equipment, they added.

They expressed their concern over late academic session which has extended up to six years instead of concluding in normal duration of four and a half years.

They complained that they do not get exposure to premium rehabilitation centres in the state or other states through educational tours.

They further complained that despite charging library fees Rs 500 annually and purchasing abundant books on BPT course, the college administration is not issuing books to the students. They pointed that the post of librarian is also vacant and the library is being run by inexperienced staff.

They urged that internal and practical marks should be given maintaining impartiality.
They requested the principal not to merge theory classes of two different batches as it only affects the study and causes inconvenience to students in understanding specific course modules. They also demanded to organise frequent academic workshops to students.

Regarding clinical requisites they pointed that despite availability of new equipment, the old ones are being used while the OPD has not been shifted to new college building yet.
Among other requisites they indicated that the college administration has not yet issued identity cards to the students, hostel and mess facilities are lacking in the college, there is no canteen in the college campus, there is lack of resources (in terms of staff and furniture) to hold university exams and other activities, lack of office staff, students belonging to reservation category facing problem in claiming scholarship, sports events are not being organised in the institute, etc.
