CG govt recommended 34 firms for coal blocks: Akbar

Raipur, September 01, 2012

Senior Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar on Saturday said that state BJP government had recommended 34 companies to Centre for coal block allocations.
In reply to Chief Minister Raman Singh’s clarification that state government had not recommend any company for coal blocks allocation, Akbar disclosed a letter sent by Chhattisgarh’s the then Energy secretary to Union Coal Ministry urging to allocate coal blocks to 34 companies for their thermal power plants (TPPs).
“The then Energy Secretary had requested to allocate coal blocks to 26 companies which wanted to establish their independent units in the state. Besides, he recommended eight more companies who had signed pact with the government to establish captive power plant,” he said.
Providing copy of the letter to the media Akbar said the CM was misleading people of Chhattisgarh on his government’s role on coal blocks allocation. “The ruling party’s recommendations evidently indicate that it had been deeply engaged in squandering state’s mineral resources,” he said.
