Claiming to have exposed yet another irregularity done by Raman Singh-government in coal blocks allocation, Congress has alleged that the Chhattisgarh CM gave coal benefit to Adani group – the company owned by Gautam Adani who is close to Gujarat CM Narendra Modi.
“The Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) first obtained two coal blocks in Orissa and then, sans recommendation of Naveen Patnaik-government, appointed Adani group as MDO (mine developer cum operator) flouting Centre’s conditions. In this deal, the Adani group will get 150 MT coal,” said state Congress incharge BK Hariprasada while talking to media persons at Congress Bhawan on Thursday.
“The CM Raman Singh alleges that the Centre allocated Chhattisgarh coal blocks to unknown individuals/companies without recommendation of his government. Ironically, the CMDC did the same thing,” he pointed.
He informed that the CMDC obtained two coal blocks in Orissa – Chendipada and Chendipada-II forming joint venture firm (UCM Coal Company Limited) with Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited and Maharashtra Power Generation Corporation on July 25, 2007. The total coal available in the two blocks is about 1588.99 MT.
“The Orissa government did not make any recommendation in this allocation. The CMDC told the Centre that the 500 MT raw coal from the two blocks will be supplied to the two power plants (total capacity 2990 MW) of Bhushan Steel Limited at Orissa and Maharashtra. But the Chhattisgarh government appointed Adani group as MDO by inviting bid through CMDC,” he said.
“Now taking U-turn, the CMDC is saying that it would supply washed coal to Bhushan Steel Limited by establishing coal washery through the MDO, a clear violation of Centre’s conditions. In coal washeries, about 30% coals are rejected. The rejected coals are called washery rejects or middlings. So, the CMDC is giving 150 MT rejected coal to some other company,” he added.
He said the CMDC, instead of playing role of middleman and forming joint venture companies, should rather take cue from its counterparts in other states and do the mining job itself.
He further advised the Chhattisgarh CM to stop adopting double standard and surrender both the coal blocks of Orissa to Centre before leveling allegations against it.
Akbar demands CBI inquiry
Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar has demanded CBI inquiry into the entire matter. “The two coal blocks of Orissa are about 500 times bigger than Bhatgaon-II and Bhatgaon-II extension coal blocks and proportionately the corruption is massive.
He informed that the Centre allocated the two coal blocks of Orissa to CMDC for end use in power plant. “Since CMDC does not have its own power plant, it obtained the coal blocks to supply coal to Bhushan Steel Limited,” he said.
Raman Singh is not Raja Harishchandra
When reminded about his announcement that the Congress would soon bring forth energy scam of the state government, Hariprasada said the principal opposition would surely expose the ruling party completely before next polls.
“The CM is not Raja Harishchandra and we will prove that. He should throw the certificate of being Harishchandra in litter bin,” he said.
We have genealogy of CM’s in-laws: Patel
PCC president Nandkumar Patel reiterated that he had genealogy of CM’s in-laws and would produce it when the time comes.
Notably, a couple of months back, Patel had announced before the media that he would soon produce the genealogy of CM’s in-laws after the names of latter’s kin appeared in cola blocks allocation in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, Hariprasada refused to have uttered anything over this issue.
Vora, VC, Jogi, Mahant are seniors
Asked his take over Union Minister of State Charandas Mahant’s demand that ‘second line’ leaders should get opportunity to come forward, Hariprasada said Mahant himself was a senior leader along with Motilal Vora, Vidyacharan Shukla and Ajit Jogi and playing a role of mentor for the partymen.
He maintained the party would fight next polls under the leadership of state unit president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
