The Youth Congress (YC) says that private engineering colleges are not returning excess fee taken from students despite clear instructions from Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC) to do so. In this regard, the YC members led by their Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari submitted a memorandum to FRC chairman BK Shrivastava demanding stern action against non-complying engineering institutes.
“Instead of returning additional fee, these colleges are threatening to fail the students in sessional and practical,” Tiwari told Shrivastava.
He said he had lodged complaint with the FRC against one such institute – Shri Shankaracharya College Mujgahan on July 12, 2011 for charging excess fee from the students.
“On probe, when the FRC found the complaint correct, it directed the college return the additional fee to the students but it did comply. The minutes of committee’s September 12, 2011 too say that the colleges declined its directives of fee return to the fullest,” he added.
“The college fee was Rs 53105 which was Rs 6185 more from the approved fee structure by the FRC. On government’s directives, the institute returned Rs 3700 per student and kept Rs 2485 per student with it. This is how the college illegally earned huge sum in the form of excess fee,” he elaborated.
He said there were many more private engineering institutes which had followed the suit of Shri Shankaracharya College and not returned additional fees to the students.
He warned the FRC of launching massive agitation against such institutes if action would not be taken against them.
On the occasion, Tiwari was accompanied by Sushil Agrawal, Sunny Agrawal, Sandeep Yadu, Pradeep Sahu, Samir Chouhan, Raja Bhattar, Vicky Pandey, Shiv Shrivastava, etc.
